ADO (Diesel) Waxing
Diesel is made in 2 types of grades, Summer and Winter. Seasonal
grades of diesel fuel are distributed at appropriate times during
the year. The winter grade cloud point in Southern and Eastern
Australia is normally around 1deg C, while the summer
grade is around 7deg C.
In Australia, in the colder regions, problems can arise from low-temperature
thickening of diesel fuels due to wax formation. Wax is an excellent
component for combustion quality so when the temperature is too
low, it will solidify, blocking lines and filters. If practicable,
the vehicle should be garaged overnight or parked to minimise the
effect of frost. Ideally, storage tanks should be underground if
low temperature conditions are common.
Another solution is to blend around 10% of heating oil with diesel
fuel which depress the cloud point. The blend of heating oil should
not affect engine warranties.
